2014 was the 100th anniversary of the birth of designer Ilmari Tapiovaara. The collector coin paying tribute to legendary designer Ilmari Tapiovaara is designed by Harri Koskinen, himself a Pro Finlandia medal-winning designer and one of the top names in Finnish design. Designer and interior architect Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914-1999) is one of the most renowned Finnish designers. His most famous designs include the Domus and Mademoiselle chairs. Tapiovaara's work was based on ideas of social responsibility and democracy. The collector coins have a part matte, part gloss finish. Designs on a matte background are executed with a gloss finish, while designs on a gloss background are rendered in matte. The collector coin's obverse depicts the Mademoiselle chair. The reverse features a map of the world, with Tapiovaara's destinations of 1937, 1952, 1958, 1964 and 1974 – France, the United States, Paraguay, the Soviet Union, and Mauritius – marked with sectors and dates spreading outwards from Finland.
