Climate Research in Finland 20 €
The only silver coin in 2022 highlights the importance of Finnish climate research. Nature's own air quality meter – beard lichen – is depicted on the obverse side of this commemorative coin. The relief is composed of a root-like branching network. The insightful motif can also be interpreted as representing the lungs – reminding us of the importance of air quality and its study. The small dots on the value side represent the small particles created in the air and the data obtained from them. The points form a line diagram, the curve of which can be interpreted as mirroring the fell landscape of the Pallas-Sodankylä observation network. The pictorial theme has been designed by artist duo Tuominen Patel (Terhi Tuominen and Jitan V. Patel). Issue date: 26.9.2022
